AI Assist
Summary
Threatening someone to make them give false evidence is a crime punishable by up to seven years imprisonment, or a fine, or both. It applies when a person threatens injury to the witness, the witness's reputation or property, or someone the witness cares about, with the intent to induce false testimony. If an innocent person is convicted and sentenced to death or more than seven years because of that false evidence, the person who threatened them receives the same punishment.
Example
Arjun threatens Ravi that he will damage Ravi's shop unless Ravi lies in court saying Arjun was not there. Ravi, fearing the threat, gives false testimony. Arjun can be punished with up to seven years' imprisonment, or a fine, or both. If because of Ravi's false evidence an innocent person is convicted and sentenced to death or more than seven years, Arjun receives the same punishment.
