When a document or object is produced before a court in proceedings under this Sanhita, the court may, if it thinks fit, take it into custody. Impounding means the court keeps the item and parties cannot remove it without the court's order. The court may retain it as evidence or for safekeeping until it directs otherwise.

Example

Meera files a sale deed in a property dispute under this Sanhita. The court may impound the deed, keep it in its custody and not allow either party to remove it until the court orders its release.
