Conviction on plea of guilty

AI Assist

Summary

When the accused pleads guilty, the Magistrate must record the plea as nearly as possible in the accused's own words. After recording, the Magistrate may, at his discretion, convict the accused on that plea. This lets the court decide guilt without a full trial if the plea is clear.

Example

Priya tells the court she broke a neighbour's window and admits it was her fault. The Magistrate records her exact words and may convict her on that plea without holding a full trial.

Bare Act

Enacted text
