Conviction on plea of guilty

AI Assist

Summary

If the accused pleads guilty, the Magistrate must record the plea as nearly as possible in the accused's own words. The Magistrate may then, in their discretion, convict the accused on that plea.

Example

Ravi tells the Magistrate in court that he broke a shop window and apologises, admitting guilt. The Magistrate records Ravi's words as the plea and may convict him based on that recorded plea.
