Punishment for defamation

Making statements that harm another person’s reputation (spoken or written) is punishable by simple imprisonment for up to two years, or a fine, or both. It applies when someone defames another by publishing or uttering damaging words. The legal consequence can be jail time, a monetary penalty, or both.
