Fraudulent use of false instrument for weighing

Knowingly using a false or tampered weighing instrument to cheat other people is an offence. A person who fraudulently uses such an instrument can be punished with imprisonment (simple or rigorous) for up to one year, or with a fine, or with both. The offence requires both knowledge that the instrument is false and fraudulent use.

Ravi runs a vegetable stall and adjusts his scale so it shows less weight, shortchanging buyers. Since he knowingly used a false weighing instrument to defraud customers, he can be prosecuted and, if convicted, face up to one year in jail or a fine, or both.
