Direction of warrant for execution

Any warrant ordering execution of a prison sentence must be addressed to the officer in charge of the jail or other place where the prisoner is or will be confined. It applies whenever a court issues a warrant to commit a person to custody. The consequence is that the jail officer receives and carries out the sentence.

Priya is convicted and the court sentences her to three months' imprisonment, issuing a warrant to commit her. The warrant is directed to the officer in charge of the jail where Priya will be held, so that officer carries out her reception and custody.
