Place of inquiry or trial
AI Assist
Summary
When it is unclear where an offence took place, or when it happened partly in different local areas, continued across areas, or involved several acts in different places, the case can be inquired into or tried by any court that has jurisdiction over any of those local areas. This allows the prosecution to proceed in any relevant local court instead of getting stuck on venue disputes.
Example
Priya’s shopkeeper assistant moved stolen goods out of the shop and then transported them through a neighbouring area before selling them. Because the acts occurred in more than one local area, a court in either of those areas can inquire into or try the case.
