AI Assist
Summary
Anyone who knows that an offence listed in the law has been committed, or that someone intends to commit such an offence, must immediately inform the nearest Magistrate or police officer unless they have a reasonable excuse. If they fail to report, the person must prove their excuse. The duty also covers acts done abroad that would be offences in India.
Example
Rohan sees his neighbour Arjun trying to force open a shop door at night, an act that falls under the listed offences. Rohan must promptly inform the nearest Magistrate or police officer. If he does not report, he will have to prove he had a reasonable excuse for not reporting.
