Documentary evidence

Documents produced at the trial of a petition under this Act cannot be held inadmissible solely because they are not duly stamped or registered. Even if another law requires stamp or registration, that defect alone cannot bar admission at trial. The court can still consider other admissibility objections like authenticity or relevance.

Priya files a petition for divorce and produces family letters and emails that were never stamped or registered. The court cannot reject those documents at trial only because they lack stamp or registration; it may still test their authenticity and relevance.
