Power to levy fee
AI Assist
Summary
Central or State Governments may make rules that impose fees for services under this Act, such as applications, amendments of documents, issue of certificates or licences, tests, permits, endorsements, badges, plates, countersignatures, authorisations, supply of statistics or copies, even if the Act does not expressly mention the fee. Fees may be charged for any service rendered by officers or authorities under the Act. The Government may, in public interest, exempt any class of persons from such fees in whole or in part.
Example
Priya applies to the RTO for a duplicate registration certificate and pays the fee set by the rules for issuing documents. Later the State issues an order exempting senior citizens, so Karan, who is a senior, would not have to pay the same fee.

Provided that the Government may, if it considers necessary so to do, in the public interest, by general or special order, exempt any class of persons from the payment of any such fee either in part or in full.
