Courts of Metropolitan Magistrates
AI Assist
Summary
Metropolitan areas get as many Courts of Metropolitan Magistrates, and at such places, as the State Government notifies after consulting the High Court. The presiding officers of those courts are appointed by the High Court. Each Metropolitan Magistrate has jurisdiction that extends throughout the entire metropolitan area.
Example
Priya in Mumbai reports a neighbour's theft and the complaint goes to a Metropolitan Magistrate at one of the notified courts. Because the magistrate is appointed by the High Court and has jurisdiction across the whole metropolitan area, that magistrate can hear and dispose of the matter anywhere in Mumbai.
