Record in summary trials

AI Assist

Summary

In summary trials, the Magistrate must enter specified particulars in the form the State Government directs. These include case serial number; dates (offence and report); complainant; accused's name, parentage and residence; offence charged and offence proved; accused's plea and examination; the finding; sentence or other final order; date of termination; and value of property when relevant. The entry creates the official record for disposal and appeal.

Example

Priya complains that her neighbour Rohan damaged her bicycle. In the summary trial the Magistrate records the case number, dates, Priya's name, Rohan's name/parentage/residence, the offence alleged and any offence proved, Rohan's plea and examination, the finding, the sentence or other final order, and the date proceedings ended. If the bicycle's value matters, that value is entered too.
