Harbouring deserter
AI Assist
Summary
Knowingly harbouring an Army, Navy or Air Force officer, soldier, sailor or airman who has deserted, or doing so when you have reason to believe they have deserted, is an offence. It attracts imprisonment for up to two years, or a fine, or both. The only exception is where a wife gives harbour to her husband.
Example
Ravi hides his friend who he knows deserted from the Army at his flat to help him avoid detection. Under this section Ravi can face up to two years imprisonment, or a fine, or both for harbouring a deserter. If the harbour had been given by a wife to her husband it would be exempt.
