Witness protection scheme

Every State Government must prepare and notify a Witness Protection Scheme so witnesses can be protected. It applies when a witness faces threats or risk because of testimony and requires the state to provide formal measures such as anonymity, police security, or relocation. The scheme makes witness protection an official state responsibility.

Priya is a witness in a theft case and starts receiving threats after she agrees to testify. Under the State's Witness Protection Scheme, authorities can give her anonymity in records, a police escort, or temporary relocation to keep her safe. Because the scheme must be notified, these protections are available through official channels.
