Summons how served
AI Assist
Summary
Summons are to be served by a police officer or, if state rules allow, by the court officer who issued it or another public servant. Where practicable the summons must be served personally by handing over one duplicate copy. If the server requests, the person served must sign a receipt on the back of the other duplicate, creating proof of service.
Example
Aditya is summoned to appear in court. A police officer personally hands him one duplicate of the summons and asks him to sign the other duplicate on the back. Aditya signs, and the signed receipt becomes proof that the summons was served.
