Warrant directed to police officer

A warrant addressed to a police officer can be carried out by any other police officer whose name is written on the warrant by the officer to whom it was directed or by an officer already endorsed. The written endorsement officially authorises that other officer to execute the warrant. This lets execution be delegated when the original officer cannot act.

Priya files an FIR and a magistrate issues a warrant addressed to Inspector Arjun. Inspector Arjun endorses Constable Ravi's name on the warrant because Arjun is unavailable. Constable Ravi may lawfully execute the warrant since the endorsement authorises him to act in place of the named officer.
