Provisions of this Chapter generally applicable to summons and warrants of arrest

Rules in this chapter about issuing, serving and executing summons and warrants apply to every summons and arrest warrant under the Code, so far as may be. That means the same procedures, modes of service and safeguards govern all such process unless the Code provides otherwise. Officials and courts must follow these chapter rules when issuing or carrying out summons or warrants.

Priya files an FIR and the magistrate issues a warrant of arrest for Karan. The police must follow the chapter's rules on issuing, serving and executing that warrant (for example proper service, recording and return). If they skip those steps, the arrest or the return can be challenged in court.
