Power to impound document, etc., produced

When a document or object is produced before a court under this Code, the court may order it impounded if it thinks fit. Impounding means the court takes custody of the item to preserve it or prevent misuse. The court will keep it until it releases or disposes of it according to law.

Ravi brings a signed lease into court in a rent dispute. The court may impound the lease to preserve it as evidence and stop tampering. The lease will remain in court custody until the judge orders its release or disposal.
