Things done in private defence

Acts done while exercising the right of private defence are not offences. It applies when a person uses necessary force to prevent or repel an unlawful attack on their body or property. Harm caused in a bona fide exercise of that right does not attract criminal liability.

Ravi is walking home when someone tries to snatch his bag. Ravi grabs the attacker and strikes to stop the theft, causing injury. Because he acted to defend himself and his property in bona fide private defence, his actions are not an offence.
