AI Assist
Summary
Running away to avoid being served a summons, notice or order by a public servant who is legally competent is an offence. Punishment is simple imprisonment up to one month, or fine up to Rs 500, or both. If the summons/notice/order requires personal attendance or production of a document or electronic record in a Court of Justice, punishment rises to simple imprisonment up to six months, or fine up to Rs 1,000, or both.
Example
Ravi, a shopkeeper, is told a court has issued a summons to produce his sales records. He deliberately hides to avoid being served. Because the summons required producing documents in a Court of Justice, he can face simple imprisonment up to six months, or a fine up to Rs 1,000, or both.
