AI Assist
Summary
Belonging to a wandering or other gang formed to habitually commit theft or robbery, but not a gang of thugs or dacoits, is a crime. Membership can attract rigorous imprisonment for up to seven years and a fine. The offence targets being part of such a gang, not only a single theft.
Example
Ravi joins a group that travels between towns and regularly steals from shops. Police prove he is a member of that gang and that it is not a gang of thugs or dacoits. Under this provision Ravi can be sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for up to seven years and fined.
