Punishment for abetment of certain offences

AI Assist

Summary

If someone abets the commission of any of the offences mentioned, they are punishable with the same penalty as the offence itself. In other words, helping, counselling or instigating those traffic offences attracts the identical punishment a principal offender would get.

Example

Priya encourages Rohan to drive after drinking and helps him hide the bottles. Rohan commits the offence. Because Priya abetted the offence, she is liable to the same punishment as Rohan for that offence.

Bare Act

Enacted text

Whoever abets the commission of an offence under section 184 or section 185 or section 186 shall be punishable with the punishment provided for the offence.
