Provisions of this Chapter generally applicable to summons and warrants of arrest

Provisions in this Chapter about issuing, serving and executing summons and warrants apply, so far as possible, to every summons and every warrant of arrest issued under this Sanhita. That creates a common procedure for how summons and warrants are issued, how they are served, and how arrests are carried out. Different rules will apply only where the Sanhita provides otherwise.

Priya runs a neighbourhood shop and the magistrate issues a summons under this Sanhita for a complaint about short-changing. The Chapter’s rules will control how the summons is served and what happens if Priya does not appear. If a warrant of arrest is later issued, the same rules will guide its execution.
