Witnesses to character

AI Assist

Summary

Character witnesses may be questioned by the other side and then questioned again by the party who called them. This applies whenever someone gives evidence about another person's character. Consequence: the opposing party can test that testimony by cross-examination, and the calling party can follow up by re-examination for clarification.

Example

Priya calls Rohan to testify that she is honest. The defence may cross-examine Rohan about that statement; after the cross-exam, Priya's lawyer can re-examine Rohan to clear any points.
