Using as true a certificate known to be false

Using or attempting to use a certificate that you know is false in any material respect, and presenting it as genuine, is an offence. It applies when a person corruptly presents or relies on such a certificate before a court, tribunal, or other authority. The punishment is the same as that for giving false evidence.

Example

Priya submits a medical certificate to support her compensation claim, knowing the certificate is false in an important detail. If she uses it as true before a court or authority, she can be punished in the same way as if she had given false evidence.

Enacted text

Whoever corruptly uses or attempts to use any such certificate as a true certificate, knowing the same to be false in any material point, shall be punished in the same manner as if he gave false evidence.
