Liability of agent of owner or occupier for whose benefit riot is committed
AI Assist
Summary
An agent or manager can be fined if a riot happens for the benefit of the owner or occupier they represent and the agent had reason to believe a riot or unlawful assembly was likely. Liability arises only if the agent failed to use all lawful means available to prevent the assembly or to suppress and disperse the riot. The punishment is a fine.
Example
Ravi manages a plot for an owner. He knows an unlawful assembly is likely over a rent dispute but takes no steps to stop it. When a riot occurs for the owner's benefit, Ravi can be fined because he had reason to believe it would happen and did not use all lawful means to prevent or disperse it.
