Power to restrict the use of vehicles
AI Assist
Summary
State government or an authority it empowers can prohibit or restrict driving or use of motor vehicles, or particular classes of vehicles, on specified roads or areas for public safety, convenience, or because of road or bridge conditions. The restriction is notified in the Official Gazette and appropriate traffic signs must be put up; if it lasts one month or less, Gazette notice is not required but local publicity must be given.
Example
Priya runs a shop beside an old narrow bridge where heavy trucks cause danger. The authority bans heavy trucks from that bridge, issues the restriction by notification, and has traffic signs erected so trucks must use an alternate route. If the ban had been for two weeks, Gazette notification would not be needed but local publicity would be given.
Bare Act

Provided that where any prohibition or restriction under this section is to remain in force for not more than one month, notification thereof in the Official Gazette shall not be necessary, but such local publicity as the circumstances may permit, shall be given of such prohibition or restriction.
