Parking places and halting stations
AI Assist
Summary
The State Government or an authorised authority, after consulting the local authority, can designate specific places where motor vehicles may stand either indefinitely or for a fixed period. It can also set places where public service vehicles may stop for longer than just taking up or setting down passengers. Drivers must use those prescribed parking and halting places.
Example
Priya runs a city shuttle. The authority marks a sheltered bay where her shuttle may wait for 30 minutes during driver breaks; because it is a designated halting place for public service vehicles, she can legally stop there for longer than the normal drop-off time.
Bare Act
Enacted textThe State Government or any authority authorised in this behalf by the State Government may, in consultation with the local authority having jurisdiction in the area concerned, determine places at which motor vehicles may stand either indefinitely or for a specified period of time, and may determine the places at which public service vehicles may stop for a longer time than is necessary for the taking up and setting down of passengers.
