AI Assist
Summary
Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means (firearms, stabbing/cutting instruments, fire, heated substances, poisons, corrosives, explosives, harmful fumes, or an animal) is punishable with up to three years imprisonment, a fine up to twenty thousand rupees, or both. If those means cause grievous hurt the punishment is much heavier: life imprisonment, or imprisonment of not less than one year and up to ten years, plus fine, unless another provision applies.
Example
Ravi stabs a shopkeeper with a knife during an argument, causing grievous hurt. Because a stabbing instrument was used, he faces either life imprisonment or imprisonment of not less than one year and up to ten years, plus fine; for non-grievous hurt by such means the penalty is up to three years, or fine up to twenty thousand rupees, or both.
