Proof of documents by production of certified copies

Certified copies may be produced to prove the contents of a public document or parts of it. When a certified copy purports to be a copy of a public document or a part, producing it serves as proof of those contents. The original need not be produced for that particular content.

Priya obtains a certified copy of the municipal entry recording her plot. In a boundary dispute she produces that certified copy in court. The copy is accepted as proof of the municipal record's contents without calling for the original register.
