Using as genuine a forged document

AI Assist

Summary

Using a document or electronic record as genuine when the user knows or has reason to believe it is forged is an offence. It applies where someone fraudulently or dishonestly relies on a paper or electronic record they suspect is fake. The penalty is the same as the punishment for forging that document or electronic record.

Example

Priya shows a forged degree certificate she knows is fake to get a government job. Under this section she would be punished the same way as if she had forged the certificate herself.

Bare Act

Enacted text
