Additions to driving license

AI Assist

Summary

Anyone who already holds a driving licence for one class may apply to the licensing authority where they live or do business to add another class, provided they are not disqualified. The application must be in the form and accompanied by the documents and fees prescribed by the Central Government. The request is treated like a fresh grant application, so the same tests, medical checks and other rules apply.

Example

Priya has a car driving licence and is not disqualified. She applies to the licensing authority in her area with the prescribed form, documents and fees to add a motorcycle class. She may have to undergo the same practical test and medical checks as a new applicant before the motorcycle class is added to her licence.

Bare Act

(2) Subject to such rules as may be prescribed by the Central Government, the provisions of section 9 shall apply to an application under this section as if the said application was for the grant of a license under that section to drive the class or description of motor vehicles which the applicant desires to be added to his license.
