Necessity for driving license
AI Assist
Summary
No one may drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless they hold an effective driving license authorising them to drive that vehicle. For driving a transport vehicle (except a motor cab or a motor cycle hired for personal use or rented under a specified scheme) the license must specifically entitle the holder to drive such transport vehicle. A person learning to drive may be exempted from this requirement under conditions prescribed by the Central Government.
Example
Ravi drives a small goods truck on public roads for his employer, but his driving license only authorises him to drive private cars. He is not legally allowed to drive that transport vehicle; he must obtain a licence that specifically entitles him to drive transport vehicles or meet the prescribed conditions for learners.

(2) The conditions subject to which sub-section (1) shall not apply to a person receiving instructions in driving a motor vehicle shall be such as may be prescribed by the Central Government.
