Summary
No police officer or other person in authority may offer, make, or cause to be made any inducement, threat or promise to influence someone during an investigation. At the same time, authorities must not prevent anyone from voluntarily making a statement in the course of that investigation. Nothing in the second part affects sub-section (4) of section 183.
Example
Priya is questioned after a neighbour reports missing cash. The officer must not promise to drop the case or threaten punishment to make Priya confess. If Priya nevertheless chooses to tell her side voluntarily during the investigation, the officer cannot stop her from doing so.
