AI Assist

Summary

When an Executive Magistrate gets information that someone in his area is intentionally spreading material punishable under IPC 124A, 153A, 153B, 295A, material about a judge amounting to criminal intimidation or defamation, or obscene matter under section 292, he may require that person to show cause. If satisfied, the magistrate can order the person to execute a bond for good behaviour, with or without sureties, for up to one year. Editors, proprietors, printers or publishers of registered publications acting under Press and Registration rules cannot be proceeded against under this section except by State Government order or an authorised officer.

Example

Priya runs a small personal blog and posts articles accusing a local judge of bias and using threatening language. The Executive Magistrate who receives information may require Priya to show cause why she should not be ordered to execute a bond for good behaviour. If the magistrate is satisfied, Priya may have to give a bond, with or without sureties, for up to one year.
