Discharge of Person apprehended

A person arrested by a police officer cannot be released by the police except on his bond, on a bail bond, or by a special order of a magistrate. This applies whenever the police make an arrest. The practical effect is that release must be on bond or bail, or through a magistrate's special order.

Priya is arrested on suspicion of shoplifting. The police cannot simply let her go; she must be released only if she signs a bond, if someone furnishes a bail bond for her, or if a magistrate issues a special order for her release.
