Examination of arrested person by medical officer

AI Assist

Summary

When a person is arrested, a government medical officer must examine them; if none is available, a registered medical practitioner should examine them soon after arrest. If the arrested person is female, the body must be examined only by, or under the supervision of, a female medical officer or female registered practitioner. The examiner must record any injuries and the probable time they were caused, and give a copy of the report to the arrested person or their nominee.

Example

Priya is arrested after a neighbourhood scuffle. A female government medical officer examines her, notes bruises and estimates they were recent, and prepares a written report. Priya or the person she names is given a copy of that report.
