“Servant of Government”

Anyone who is continued, appointed or employed in India by or under the authority of the Government is a government servant for the statute. Use this definition whenever a law must decide if a person is a government servant. Consequence: offences, liabilities and procedural rules that apply to government servants will apply to such persons.

Ravi is appointed as a clerk in a municipal office by the local government. Since he was appointed by the Government, he counts as a servant of Government under this definition, so offences or procedural rules that specially apply to government servants will apply to him.
