“Vessel”

A vessel means anything built to carry people or goods by water. The definition applies whenever the law uses the word 'vessel'. It makes clear that boats, ships, barges and similar watercraft are included for offences and other provisions that refer to a vessel.

Priya operates a small ferry that carries passengers and their bags across a river. If someone is assaulted or a bag is stolen on board, the ferry counts as a vessel, so offences or rules that apply to a 'vessel' will apply to her ferry.
