“Local law”

A local law is one that applies only to a particular part of India. It operates only within the geographic area the law specifies, not nationwide. Consequence: duties, prohibitions or penalties under that law bind people only in the area where the law is in force.

Priya runs a tea stall in Town A where a municipal local law bans selling tea after 11 pm. If she sells tea at 11.30 pm in Town A she can be fined under that local law, but the same rule will not apply if she sells tea in Town B.
